A Father’s Day Brunch

Father’s Day weekend turned out to be a busy weekend for us, Saturday we spent the day celebrating the hubby’s first Father’s Day and that night we headed out to celebrate my good friend’s surprise 30th birthday! Sunday the hubby was working again, while me and the little miss had big plans to head out to my Dad and Stepmom’s for a Father’s Day brunch. My very talented Stepmom loves to host parties and is very good at it! So I had an idea that she would put on quite a spread (she’s an amazing cook and baker) and would have a nice tablescape set up for the afternoon. I had NO idea that she had planned such a beautiful party to celebrate all the men in our lives. She not only had planned the day for my Dad, my sister’s husband and my hubby, but had also invited my Stepdad and my Grandpa (my stepdad’s dad) out for the day as well! I thought that was very thoughtful. Our cousin (sister) and sweet Aunt even joined us for the day, it’s always great to see them and spend time together!

My Dad and Stepmom have a beautifully decorated log cabin that sits atop a hill overlooking their own commercially grown organic blueberries, cherries and apples. They have a gorgeous view and it’s a wonderful place to spend some time with family, reflecting on all of life’s blessings!

When we showed up she had tables set up out on the grass that was complete with large blue umbrella’s and a table setting that spoke to summer, that should be right around the corner. There were lots of fun bright colors throughout! She even got a mini picnic table for the kiddos with its own striped umbrella with fun colors for summer. So cute!

The food was delicious, we had salmon with a homemade mango fruit composte salsa, bbq chicken, potato salad, buttermilk biscuits, and the list goes on and on of the delicious homemade treats she created. We even got to sample some of her jams from her new line of specialty spreads, she’s about to launch a second line of speciality spreads under the brand Lulu’s Big Blue Barn. If you haven’t had the opportunity to check out her spreads, apple butter, and pie fillers you are definitely missing out on all of these yummy organic treats! Check out all of her amazing treats at www.middletonorganics.com. My personal favorites are the apple butter (I like to use it for a chicken stuffed apple recipe I’ll feature soon) and the ‘Apples Galore and More Fruit Filling’, it is amazing on ice cream. All of her spreads are delicious and you would not be disappointed with any of them!
It turned out to be a truly wonderful afternoon spent visiting with family and chasing after our little ones! Every day is truly a blessing and it’s nice to get family together to remind ourselves just how blessed we are!

A Memorable First -Father’s Day

With this being my hubby’s first Father’s Day, I wanted to make it memorable for him. I love to plan special days for the people I love and care about, so of course I wanted to make this first memory as special as possible! I thought about how I was going to plan this special day for weeks, and I kept going back and forth with different ideas. Ultimately, I decided to plan a picnic lunch in the park and a present to go along with my theme for the day. I found this cool cooler about a month earlier at Target and knew I had to get it for my hubby! He has always enjoyed spending time on the Yakima River fishing and relaxing with good company.

The day couldn’t have been more perfect, the hubby spent the morning relaxing and sleeping in. We had to celebrate Father’s Day on Saturday because it was my hubby’s only day off and he was pretty wore out. While he spent the morning relaxing, I was busy putting together our lunch and getting everything together that we would need for the afternoon. Once I had everything staged and ready to present, I grabbed the hubby to present him with his gift. I really wish I would have taken a picture of the little staged presentation for him to share with you, but I got caught up in the moment and forgot! I took the cooler that we had our lunch ready to enjoy in it, a bag of more goodies nestled on top with the new cooler, and a fishing pool leaning up against it all. Of course, he loved it!

I was so excited about giving my hubby the gift above, so excited in fact that I had to give it to him the night before our big Father’s Day celebration. I saw an idea on Pinterest awhile back, where someone had taken their pets’ paw-prints and framed them. I decided to do my own take on it and have our two ‘hugsters’ with our little miss’ handprint/paw-prints on one canvas. It turned out perfect! Being the gushy type, I almost cried when I gave it to him because I knew that it would mean so much to him. He loved it and was almost as excited about it as I was! Just not on the verge of tearing up like I was!

Getting back to the picnic in the park, we had beautiful weather that day, it wasn’t to hot and it wasn’t to cold…it was just right! We had a nice lunch and warded off the pesky seagulls long enough to eat and enjoy our food. Then we let the little miss take a few steps, fall, we would pick her up, and the process would repeat again for a while. Oh the joys of helping your little one learn how to walk! We then packed up our lunch, blanket, and stroller so the vulchers..I mean seagulls…wouldn’t destroy our stuff while we walked the short distance down to the water. The hubby and little miss played in the water while I snapped some pictures, we enjoyed this special moment for a second and then headed out. After all, we had a surprise 30th birthday to get too! And we’re off again….never a dull moment!

A Mother’s Love

With this being my first ‘offical’ Mother’s Day, the day felt exceptionally special to me. There is something about becoming a mother for the first time that makes you appreciate your own mom and the other mother figures in your life. I am so greatful to my mom for nuturing and endlessly encouraging me to explore my creativity! I have not only been fortunate enough to have a creative mom, but I also have a creative and talented step-mom. I am so blessed! They are amazing cheerleaders of support for me, and I know that I am so fortunate to have both of them in my life. I hope I can be the same mom to my beautiful little girl!
This year as I was reflecting on Mother’s Day, I realize the importantance of the holiday. It’s not about buying expensive gifts to thank your mom for the person she helped you become, but to let her know how special she is! I had the opportunity to make a little extra money this weekend working the fragrance counter at a local mall. As I was visiting with my fellow co-workers they were commenting on how slow business seemed to be with Mother’s Day on Sunday. I got to thinking about it, and truly hope that most of the customers who would have bought their mom an expensive bottle of perfume opted to spend the day with their mom instead. The older I get, the more I realize that unpersonal gifts are just not for me and I would much rather spend the day with my family and handmade gifts. I didn’t get the opportunity to see both of my mom’s yesterday, but I hope they both know how special they are to me. I am working on creating personal gifts for both of my moms and I hope they like them…I’ll post pictures soon!

To all my fellow mommies out there, you have the hardest and the most rewarding job in the world! I hope you cherish every moment and memory!
